Moat Brae, a fine Georgian town house rediscovering its roots

Where vandals and pigeons have caused havoc, the Trust envisages a restoration – not just of J.M. Barrie's fairy playground, but of a noble Georgian town house which deserves its place as a monument to Dumfries’ past.

Moat Brae is currently listed as a Category B house but because of its importance to the Peter Pan story, an application was made to Historic Scotland for its up-grading to Category A, which was rejected. But even if it had not provided what Barrie called the 'genesis' of the Peter Pan legend, Moat Brae would still stand out as a fine architectural example with a long history of service to medicine as well as literature.
