Just £1.5m to go!

This week Joanna Lumley launched our Digital Appeal for the final £1.5m needed to create Scotland’s own National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling at Moat Brae House, where Peter Pan began.

With £4 million already secured the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust is well on the way to its £5.5m goal, which would, allow us to provide a place which will bring a world of adventure, imagination and inspiration to thousands of children a year.

Joanna, the trust’s patron, has created a new video explaining why she believes that every child deserves somewhere that their imaginations can run wild.

You can see Joanna Lumley’s video now – please share it far and wide.

We hope it will inspire you to make a donation, and as Joanna says: “Your gift can be as big as the crocodile, or as tiny as Tinker Bell.”

We want to transform the derelict Georgian house and gardens, where J M Barrie first dreamed of Peter Pan, into a centre that celebrates literature, creativity and play.

There will even be a Neverland Discovery Garden, with a delightful activity trail, where children can have make-believe adventures like J M Barrie did as a little boy.

Donations will also go towards the two extensions, plus fixtures and fittings, to make the house itself a wonderland for the imagination.

We want to throw open the doors in 2017 and are already busy developing partnerships and planning events and activity programmes.

The first stage of restoration is underway and we have been thrilled by the support this has received from people, and businesses, around the globe.

Some people prize Moat Brae for the joy it will bring to young people, others see the chance to inspire future writers, and yet more appreciate the project as a way of preserving our heritage and encouraging the regeneration of Dumfries town centre.

For all these reasons Moat Brae is inspiring a real sense of excitement – imaginations are taking flight just as they did in J M Barrie’s ‘happiest days’ as a child in Dumfries.

Believe and it can happen.
