Imagination and Opportunity Matter
“I am not young enough to know everything” J.M. Barrie
in the power of imagination
to transform lives
no matter where your starting point in life.
Every child deserves to have a place where they can
let their imagination take flight, where they are encouraged
to explore, discover, have fun, make mistakes and learn.
MOAT BRAE provides a massive opportunity for us to bring some of the best childhood experiences to the young people of our region and to create a unique attraction to inspire visitors of all ages from around the world.
…is for Moat Brae to be a place which promotes and encourages imagination,
creativity and play, for everyone to enjoy, in recognition of its literary,
cultural and historical heritage as the birthplace of Peter Pan.
We aim to do this by:
* Restoring the structure and fabric of the Georgian building, securing its future as a major asset for the local community
* Establishing a national centre that will celebrate children’s literature and storytelling across all time and all cultures; and
* Reinventing the garden as J.M. Barrie’s Neverland, his ‘enchanted land’ where the playing of childhood games so inspired him.
This will result in a major new attraction, welcoming visitors from all over the world throughout the year, ensuring the financial sustainability of the house and garden at Moat Brae.
To achieve these aims we need to raise £5.8m for capital works and more for specific features at Moat Brae
On these magic shores children at play are for ever beaching their coracles.
We too have been there; we can still hear the sound of the surf, though we shall land no more.
