COMMISSION OPPORTUNITY – Signature Carnival Puppet Artist/Designer

Open from: 8th May 2018
Closing Date: 12 noon 29th May 2018

The Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust is seeking an artist, or group of artists, who specialise in creating large signature puppets for carnival events to work at this year’s Youth Beatz Festival in Dumfries.

The Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust (PPMBT) would like to commission an artist, or group of artists, to design and create spectacular, crocodile-themed ‘signature puppet pieces’ during an open demonstration at this year’s Youth Beatz Festival in Dumfries, engaging with local young people during their creation.

Youth Beatz Festival 2018 is due to take place over two days on Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July. The Festival is one of the Signature Events during Scotland’s Year of Young People and is expected to attract 40,000 young people over the two days.

The demonstration will take place in the large PPMBT big-top tent and will give young people the opportunity to engage with a professional artist creating the signature pieces over the two days. The PPMBT team will deliver related hands-on art activities for the public separate to this commission, but we would anticipate that the artist will interact with young people over the weekend to explore the creative process.

Artists will be working on the pieces from 12:30 to 18:30 each day. This is a stand-alone event, but there may be opportunities for follow up activities in the month’s leading up to the Moat Brae’s CrocRock Carnival in Dumfries on Sunday 2nd December 2018.

This is a paid commission. Individuals and groups are encouraged to submit expressions of interest with an outline/sketch of initial idea. Brief will be available upon application.

Location: Dumfries and Galloway

For further information, please contact John Molloy

The deadline for expressions of interest is Tuesday 29 May 2018 at 12:00.
