Head Gardener

Salary: £24,000 Full Time 35hrs per week

The Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust is seeking a new Head Gardener who will manage the Neverland Discovery Garden at the National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling based at Moat Brae in Dumfries.  The role will be Full Time and permanent.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and curate the garden and grounds at our property and its plant collections so that its history, evolved design and artistic integrity are further developed and presented in an exemplary manner and documented to according to nationally recognised standards.
  • Manage all day to day aspects of garden presentation and cyclic maintenance, leading a customer focused culture that delivers exemplary standards of garden and landscape management, maintenance, curation, presentation, interpretation and promotion.
  • In association with the Director, recruit, train, manage and develop volunteers to achieve first class garden presentation and interpretation as well as job satisfaction.
  • Play a lead role in the practical work and in the formulation and implementation of management, development and conservation plans, ensuring that plans accommodate and promote best practice.
  • Identify and develop local marketing opportunities for the promotion of the garden and development of the visitor experience. Ensure visitors have the best possible day out and act as a garden representative to develop external relationships and lead garden tours as required.

You will be required to be registered with the PVG Scheme through Disclosure Scotland.

The Centre is scheduled to open in May and the successful candidate will be expected to commence employment as soon as possible but no later than April 2019.

Volunteer Coordinator

Salary:  £22,000 (pro rata) 17.5 hours per week

The Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust is seeking a new Volunteer Coordinator who will manage our ambitious volunteer programme for the National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling based at Moat Brae in Dumfries.  The role will be Part Time for the first 18 months with scope for expansion depending on the requirements of the Centre going forward.

The role involves the recruitment, placement, training and retention of volunteers across a range of opportunities including:

  • Retail and catering services;
  • Guided house and garden tours;
  • Event stewarding;
  • Delivery of activities; and
  • General maintenance.

You’ll manage volunteers and their relationships with those they come into contact with, including employees and service users of the PPMBT. You’ll also arrange volunteer training, monitor, evaluate and accredit volunteers.

You will be required to be registered with the PVG Scheme through Disclosure Scotland.

Café Manager

Salary £22,000 Full Time 40hrs per week

The Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust is seeking a new Café Manager who will manage the new Galley Café at the National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling based at Moat Brae in Dumfries.  The role will be Full Time and permanent.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Management of a licensed visitor café (up to 48 covers) with additional external seating and views and access to the garden;
  • Management of a small team of catering staff (cook, service assistants and waiting staff);
  • Management of the catering budget, including all ordering and supply chain.
  • Organisation of catering to support the events programme of public and private events including conferences, seminars and meetings as well as a range of educational activities (either produced in-house or using external caterers);
  • Menu design;
  • Cooking, baking and when required front of house service.

Café Cook

Salary £18,000 (pro rata)  32hrs per week (negotiable)

The Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust is seeking a new Café Cook for the new Galley Café at the National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling based at Moat Brae in Dumfries.  The role will be Full Time and permanent.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise operation of the café/bar.
  • Prepare, cook and serve food and drink;
  • Supervise catering for private hires and events;
  • Promote and practise relevant hygiene, health and safety and fire safety standards;
  • Work in compliance with relevant legislation including licensing.

The Café Cook is a practical, hands-on role, with much of their working hours spent in the kitchen and service area, cooking, preparing and serving food. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in what will be one of the UK’s leading tourist attractions.

Administrator

Salary £22,000 Full Time 35hrs per week

 The Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust is seeking a new Administrator who will provide financial and administrative support to the office team at the National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling based at Moat Brae in Dumfries.  The role will be Full Time and permanent.

 Key responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking administrative tasks to support the management team and ensure efficient running of the office;
  • Support budgeting and bookkeeping procedures;
  • Create and update records and databases with personnel, financial and other data;
  • Coordinating office activities and operations to secure efficiency and compliance to company policies;
  • Manage communications and correspondence (e-mail, letters, packages etc.);
  • Track stocks of office supplies and place orders when necessary.
  • Ensure maintenance and safety compliance standards are being met throughout the Centre.

The ideal candidate will self-motivated and trustworthy and have proven experience in office administration. In addition, they will be competent and confident of working with little supervision and should have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills as well as excellent organisational and leadership skills. They should have familiarity with office management procedures and basic accounting principles.

Excellent knowledge of MS Office and office management software (ERP etc.) is essential and qualifications in secretarial studies will be an advantage.  BSc/BA in office administration or a relevant field is desirable.
