About this Event

Maisie Chan – Fairy Tales, Myths and Legends

Time: 11 – 11:45M

Join Gavin Wallace Fellowship winner, and new Writer in Residence at Moat Brae, Maisie Chan as she discusses her writing journey and how fairy tales, myths and legends can be reimagined for a modern reader. If you have ever dreamed of being a children’s author, Maisie will offer advice and inspire you.

Maisie Chan – Nature Writing Workshop

Time: 12 – 1PM

Step into the Neverland Discovery Garden for a nature writing workshop like no other! Maisie Chan will help you draw inspiration from your surroundings and develop your stories. What can we reimagine? What characters can we create?  And how can we grow the story, so it has a beginning, middle and end?

Growing up, Maisie Chan only had one children’s story that she felt represented her. She became a children’s author to change that. She is based in Glasgow but grew up in Birmingham and has studied across the world. Becoming a children’s author was not her first career choice (she had her heart set on becoming a hairdresser when she was 8) but she has always loved telling stories. Now she is an established writer with multiple publications, with representation and inclusivity at the heart of her stories. She has written for early readers (Hachette) and had short stories published in Ladybird Tales of Superheroes (Penguin) and a full short story collections called Stories From Around the World (Scholastic) as well as many stories for The Big Think; a well-being curriculum based around stories for primary school children. Visit Maisie’s website to find out more: maisiechan.com
