In 2019, Moat Brae opened its doors as Scotland’s very own National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling. This historic house and garden that inspired the story of Peter Pan now aims to inspire more stories by working with local young people like YOU to help shape the work that we do.
WHO ARE THE JMB CREATIVES?
The JMB Creatives is made up of young people just like you who want to add a touch of magic to Moat Brae. The meetings are led by our friendly, creative team and we like to keep the atmosphere relaxed. We try to meet regularly to plan projects, help produce Moat Brae’s 101 George Street project and to deliver our very own special events at Moat Brae.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
We will present a range of specific projects to you so you can advise and influence the direction of the centre. There are lots of opportunities to get involved and you can volunteer and help organise events and explore your own creativity! You can link these volunteering opportunities to your Duke of Edinburgh, Saltire or Arts Awards.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
Anyone aged 11 to 25 can apply. We don’t expect you to have any experience as the meetings will be led by our creative team. You don’t even need a special interest in reading… but if you want to help make your town special, enjoy a challenge and want to get involved in something fun and exciting that can make a difference to Dumfries, this could be a great opportunity for you!
WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT?
This kind of opportunity is great for your CV or Personal Statement. You can gain valuable experience in developing ideas and working in teams in a fun and friendly environment. It’s a great way to improve your practical and organisational skills, to network and learn how good ideas can be turned into practice and how major projects are planned and carried out.
