Project Update

moatbrae, August 11, 2016

Cupola Design copyWhat an exciting moment this summer is proving to be.  After seven long years, the Trust has reached a very significant milestone – we have started the tender process to appoint contractors for the next stage of capital works at Moat Brae.  The procurement process is a long and time-consuming one as, with a project of this scale, we are obliged to follow EU rules.  We are being guided by the RIAS in Edinburgh and are most grateful to them for their continued support. Six companies have now been shortlisted and the successful candidate will be announced at the beginning of November.  Work will start on site at the beginning of 2017 and is scheduled to take about 18 months.

Meanwhile the capital funding is in place but, rest assured, there will still be plenty of sponsorship and naming opportunities as we get to the kitting-out stage of the building and the planting in the garden, to say nothing of the Pirate Ship and the Wendy House!

As you’ll see from the numerous events and activities that have been taking place over the past few months, we are incredibly grateful to our ever-increasing band of volunteers.  Whether it’s been greeting thousands of visitors to the magical 3D Enchanted Bridge at Gretna Gateway Outlet Village, helping at the Neverland Supper, manning the Pop-Up Shop in the High Street or at House of Imagination – the YouthBeatz Fringe event, there have been a myriad of friendly faces determined to spread the word about our plans for the future of Moat Brae. This local support is greatly valued and really appreciated by us all.

We’re delighted also to announce that Lucy Brann has joined the staff team in the office as part-time Administrator.  Lucy went to Dalbeattie High School before studying Ecology at Stirling University.

A lot of our activities over the coming months will be about piloting ideas and developing partnerships. Look out for an exciting collaboration with Wigtown Book Festival in BigDog – a 2-day Children’s Book Festival in Dumfries next spring.

A further number of Open Days and events at Moat Brae are planned before the house is handed over to the new contractors.  Do keep in touch by looking at our website or by following us on Facebook  Instagram and Twitter.
