Join us for Halloween fun and games and have a go at a spooky drawing or story. Why Not… Dress Up?

THEME: Bonfire Night Colour Explosion!
Using fireworks safety advice as our starting point, join us to explore this important topic by creating colourful pictures and stories. Why Not… Bring an old pair of gloves and hat (Don’t worry, this is only for play – we won’t be using real fireworks!).

THEME: Dinosaur Stories
Get ready to stomp around the room! It’ll be roar-some fun at Wee Writers this week with dinosaur-themed stories, songs and more!
Why Not… Bring a toy dinosaur- or dress up!

THEME: The Snowman
Inspired by the classic Raymond Briggs book, join us for wintery fun and games, and have a go at writing/drawing your own snowy story.
Why Not… Bring along our favourite wintery teddy bear!

Everyone has a story to tell … even the littlest members of our families! Does your child love stories? Keen to nurture their imagination?
Looking for a welcoming and enjoyable parent-and-child activity?
Join us for pesky pirates, faraway lands, amazing animals or even your favourite book and cartoon characters!
In these fun and interactive sessions, children from birth to five will have the opportunity to take part in a mixture of storytelling and writing related games, activities and songs. Each week, we will explore a different story, topic or seasonal theme – pirates included! Work together with your little one to produce short stories and poems, relax while they play, or simply enjoy the company of like-minded people. No pressure to join in with everything – take it at your child’s pace.
Each session will end with a relaxed story and song time.

Sessions will be led by Kerrie McKinnel, a published writer and creative writing tutor. Grown-ups might like to know that the focus will be on learning through play and child-centred activities, with occasional reference (where appropriate) to the benchmarks set by Education Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence. There will also be fine motor development activities, essential in helping to strengthen the muscles needed for learning to write. But all the kids will care about is that they’re having fun! This is a special time in the week with your child to enjoy a shared love of stories.
