Young Writers Competition 2018

Congratulations to all the Winners, Runners Up and Highly Commended entries in this year’s Young Writers Competition. The certificates and prizes were presented at Waterstones Dumfries on Wednesday 9th May (JM Barrie’s 158th Birthday).

We had a huge response to this competition and the shortlist was hotly contested by some truly amazing and fantastical young authors. The following is the shortlist but really there were many more very worthy stories which were just pipped to the post.  The winning stories will be published in the July issue of Dumfries & Galloway Life Magazine and many of the young authors will also read their stories live on Alive Radio 107.3FM in a special programme dedicated to this competition – watch our website and social media for more news on the date for this! We will also publish the winning stories here on our website soon.

In the meantime here are the winners and a selection of videos and photographs taken at the presentation event.

“My Future Log…”

Today I travelled into the FUTURE!…  I won’t go into details about how, I just want to tell you about what I saw…🚀

Imagine you have flown into the future, the year… you decide!

We want you to write a diary entry of 500 words (up to 250 if you are aged 8 or under) about what you see and how things might have changed…

There are three age categories: 5-8 yrs, 9-11 yrs and 12-26 yrs

Your Future Log can be handwritten or typed and can include a small amount of illustration. You can submit it to us as a word document, PDF or JPeg image and submit it using the form below.

If you are under 18 you must include your parent or guardian’s details so if you are a winner we can ask their permission to contact you.

Get your story to us by Thursday 5th April 2018 – we look forward to reading it!!! (make sure you get it in on time as we can’t accept late entries)

Winning stories will be published in Dumfries & Galloway Life Magazine, on our website, broadcast on Alive Radio 107.3FM and shared with our social media pages and winners will receive a prize from Waterstones Booksellers Ltd Dumfries
